How to Audition for Share Your Voice

Here's a brief video to walk you through the submission process for Share Your Voice, along with written directions below.

Things You Need to Know

Before you submit your audition, we want to answer some questions you may have in order to help you succeed on the way to the stage!   

Are you eligible to audition for share your voice?

All applicants for the competition must meet these requirements:

  1. Applicant must be 14–20 years old.
  2. Applicant must live in the South Bay and South Los Angeles Area.
  3. Applicant needs to have a "Mentor" that can be responsible for all of the logistical aspects of the competition. (See "What is a Mentor" Section.)
  4. Applicant has parental permission to enter competition.

What is a mentor?

A "Mentor" can be a parent, guardian, teacher, pastor, or family friend. They must be an adult over the age of 25, have personally known the contestant for at least 6 months, and be able to validate the quality of their character and musical ability.

IMPORTANT: If the Mentor is NOT the parent or legal guardian of the contestant, they must have written permission of the parent or legal guardian to be the Mentor of the Contestant.

My mentor and I are ready to submit an audition! What do we do?

STEP 1: APPLICATION FORM
You and your mentor will fill out the application form (link at the bottom of this page).

STEP 2: RECEIVE YOUR LINK
Once the Share Your Voice Team has received your application, you will be sent a Dropbox link. This will be the folder that you will upload your audition videos to. You do not need a Dropbox account to upload your audition.

STEP 3: RECORD YOUR AUDITION AND INTRO VIDEOS
You will need to make two videos for your audition. 

  • The first video will be you singing a 30 second A Capella of your favorite song. Make sure to say your name and the song that you'll be singing. You may sing whatever you'd like as long as it does not contain any explicit language or adult themes. Any explicit language will result in disqualification. This video does not need to be a high-quality production. In fact, we prefer you just sing into your smartphone!
    IMPORTANT: Audio editing of any kind is not allowed. Meaning, no vocal tuning, mixing, compression, equalization, etc. We just want to hear the most authentic version of your voice! 

     
  • The second video will be a recommendation/introduction from your mentor. Begin with a 1-minute version of your story and how you are an active member in your community. Why do you think you're a good fit for Share Your Voice. Then have your mentor tell us a bit about themselves and how they've gotten to know you. Then have them explain why they think you should be a part of Share Your Voice.

​​STEP 4: UPLOAD YOUR VIDEOS
Upload BOTH your audition and introduction videos to the Dropbox link you were provided in STEP 2. Make sure to fill out your name in the name field. When the Share Your Voice Team has received your videos, we'll send you an email to confirm receipt

​STEP 5: WAIT!
Judging will begin after the submission deadline on April 1, 2025. If you have been chosen to move on to the next round of auditions, you will receive an email with additional info by April 3, 2025.

STEP 6: SHARE YOUR VOICE! From the second round of auditions, 3 finalists will be chosen to perform in the Share Your Voice live event, and one grand winner will be chosen to have a recording session at Hunt Recording Studio! Good luck, and we hope to see you in the studio!

 **Submission Deadline is April 1st, 2025** 

The grand prize winner of Share Your Voice will win a recording session at the world class Hunt Recording Studio, along with a couple of other audio related prizes like a microphone, an audio interface, headphones, etc. 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive an audio interface and microphone.

We ask that you use your phone's camera audio to record your audition. Please do not use any specialized equipment or microphones.

Everyone is allowed only one audition, however if there is an error with your audition, you can email [email protected] to notify us, and we can determine if you are eligible to resubmit or not.

Share Your Voice is not limited to only those who sing “Christian Music”. Anyone from any background is welcome to submit an audition!

Share Your Voice is sponsored by The Salvation Army, which is a Christian organization. There will be an emphasis on Christian values throughout the competition that will be reflected in publicity, operation, and performance content.

All contestants and mentors must at all times act in a way that is respectful to the Christian values that Share Your Voice is built on while participating in the competition.
